School under the trees, for now. A building of their own, with your help.

Joy and Blessing Academy is a state-accredited primary school outside Gbeo, in Ghana’s North East Region. It serves children from the surrounding rural communities, who learn together in one classroom.

How the school began

Joy and Blessing Academy started with a family connection. Tyler and Alexis Rogers spent eighteen months serving in Ghana, and the school grew out of that time, founded together with Pastor Desmond, with Madam Dorcas, the school’s first teacher, and with Josh and Rachel Rogers.

The school sits outside Gbeo, a community in the West Mamprusi area of Ghana’s North East Region, and it is closely associated with Pastor Desmond’s church. Its students come from the surrounding rural communities, and they learn together in one classroom.

The school is accredited by the state. Today it has 62 students, taught by 4 teachers and led by a director. Its teachers have stayed with it even though they could earn more in Tamale or Accra. They stay for the mission of the school. Keeping them, and giving the children a real building, is most of what JABA needs.

What the school needs

Three things, in order. Steady monthly support first, then the basics for the classroom, then a building.

Monthly operating support

$5,000a year for teachers’ salaries

The school has 62 students, taught by 4 teachers and led by a director. Teachers’ salaries cost about $5,000 a year, and they are the school’s main running cost. The school also periodically needs uniforms, paper, books, and pencils, and it needs desks and chairs.

Until now, the school’s support has rested largely on one family, Josh and Rachel Rogers. The point of monthly giving is that the school’s income should not rest on one family. Monthly donors giving together can cover the salary bill and keep the teachers in place. Any amount helps, and monthly gifts through GlobeServe can be set up by card or ACH.

One-time needs

The everyday things a school runs through and wears out. Cost estimates for these are still being gathered.

  • BooksReading and lesson books for the classes, plus paper and pencils for daily work.
  • Desks and chairsDesks and chairs for the classrooms, needed now and even more once the new building opens.
  • UniformsSchool uniforms for the students, bought as children grow and sets wear out.

One-time gifts toward these go through the same GlobeServe giving page, using the steps in the Give section below, or by check with the Operational Support memo.

Current needs

October 2026

Current needs are dated and removed or marked funded when they are met.

Textbooks for Classes 5 and 6

about $110

The school’s two oldest classes need new textbooks for this school year, across their core subjects. The school priced the full set at GHC 1,260, about $110 at the October 2026 exchange rate.

When this need is met, it will be marked here.

The building fund

The school building collapsed in the rainy season. Classes have met outside ever since.

The old building was never a proper school building, and it came down in the rains. Today classes meet outside under a tree, and in the church building when the weather turns. Teaching goes on, but rain, heat, and the lack of walls set the terms.

A permanent school building is the plan. Pastor Sam and Pastor Desmond are working out the details together with GlobeServe: the size of the building, what it will include, and what it will cost. Those details are still being settled, so no figure is published here yet.

Gifts to the building fund are welcome now, through the same GlobeServe instructions in the Give section below: online, select Most Urgent Needs and email us at [email protected] that the gift is for the building fund, or send a check with the Building Fund memo.

“Timeema”

Local tradition, recorded by a visitor in 2019, gives the neighboring village of Karimenga a first name: Timeema, said to mean “Let’s build,” the founder’s answer to newcomers who asked about settling there. It is a fitting name for what this fund is asking.

Give

All gifts to JABA go through GlobeServe. Two short steps direct a gift to the school: the Ministry Area selection in the online form, plus a follow-up email, or the memo line on a check. Here is exactly how it works.

Give online

One-time or monthly, by card or ACH, through GlobeServe’s giving page.

  1. Choose your gift. On the first step, pick one-time or monthly and an amount, then continue.
  2. Enter your details. On the second step, add your name, email, and address.
  3. Additional Details. On the third step, in the “Ministry Area” dropdown, select “Most Urgent Needs.” There is no JABA option in the form. That selection is the one GlobeServe asks JABA donors to use for now.
  4. Then email us. After the payment step, email us at [email protected] and say the gift is for JABA, whether it is for operational support or the building fund, and include the gift amount, the date, and your name exactly as entered on the form, so the gift can be matched.

The email is the step that tells GlobeServe the gift is for JABA. Without it, an online gift goes to GlobeServe’s most urgent needs rather than to the school.

Give through GlobeServe

You can also start from GlobeServe’s Make an Impact page.

How the GlobeServe form works (checked October 2026): four steps, Choose Your Gift, Your Details, Additional Details, Payment Details. On the third step, choose Most Urgent Needs in the Ministry Area list.

Give by check

Checks are welcome, and the memo line is what designates your gift for JABA.

Get involved

Giving is one way to help. You can also come and see the school for yourself, stand with it in prayer, or simply follow along.

Join a trip to Ghana

If a trip is planned, small teams travel to Gbeo to help at the school or work on the building. If you might like to come along, tell us here. Trips are arranged personally, and expressing interest is not a booking.

Become a prayer partner

Prayer partners receive one email a month with the school's current prayer needs, the people behind them, and how earlier prayers have been answered.
